June 4th - Timber Pointe Outdoor Center Confirms Day Camp Schedule and Family Weekend Retreats

Hudson, IL, June 4, 2020 – Timber Pointe Outdoor Center is eager to welcome campers back onto the property in July. Under the recently announced guidelines by the State of Illinois, Timber Pointe will be allowed to host day camps and family weekend retreats. Overnight camps hosted by Easterseals Central Illinois and other partner groups from across the nation have been cancelled in accordance with the guidelines.

“There has been so much uncertainty around the summer camp season this year, we are thrilled to be able to provide opportunities for families and children of all abilities,” said Allen McBride, Director of Timber Pointe Outdoor Center. “Camp experiences provide everyone, especially those with special needs, a chance to feel included and empowered.”

The cancellation of overnight camps has created an opportunity for additional weeks of Timber Pointe Outdoor Center’s Inclusive Adventure day camps. From July 6 through August 14, these camps run 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and provide specialized recreation opportunities for children ages 5-13 with and without disabilities. Each week has a new theme and campers receive breakfast, lunch and a snack. Scholarships and financial assistance are available.

New this year, Timber Pointe Outdoor Center is offering family weekend retreats. As families begin to emerge from the stay-at-home order, respite activities for parents of children and adults with disabilities, developmental delays and other special needs are more important than ever. Starting in July and running through August 9, these family weekends include meals and two nights and three days of outdoor activity and relaxation for families.

Earlier this year, Easterseals Central Illinois activated an emergency fundraising campaign to ensure when it was safe to host camp, we would be able to help families afford it. Thanks to that campaign, these family weekend retreats are being offered at no charge. Additionally, the cost of day camps will be reduced for most families.
